夏天的雨总是有些让人讨厌。阿走一边想，一边把头深深埋进被子里。
这样想当然是有很多原因。首先，夏天的雨下得又大又急，向下坠落的速度再叠加上自己向前奔跑的速度，形成一个倾斜着的角度。雨滴砸在脸上有一种令人发痒的痛感，影响视野不说，还会让他觉得很不舒服。其次，灰二哥的膝伤近年来虽然已经痊愈了大半，但是仍然受不了潮湿的折磨。每到下雨天，他都能看到那人拖着阵阵发痛的膝盖站在训练场上，还对自己的关心置之不理。最后，就是夏天的雨和春天、秋天、冬天的雨不一样，潮湿中还掺杂着夏天独有的燥热。下雨之前，包含水汽的空气捂得人喘不过来气；下雨之后，片刻的清凉又很快被高温蒸发。这种湿热的感觉好像是回到了热带雨林，自己变成了一株小植物，在一个不知名的小角落静静地生长，又静静地腐烂。
但最讨厌的还是在这样一个难得的休息日里，夏天的雨偏偏找上门来。原本的出行计划被打破了不说，灰二哥又被主管找去商谈工作事宜，不知道什么时候才能回来，也不知道膝盖是不是还在疼。现在是早上十点，他结束了晨跑之后就什么也不想做，于是百无聊赖地躺在床上，给夏天的雨列上一条又一条罪名。
挂在墙外的空调主机嗡嗡作响，雨滴点点打在玻璃上。以前在竹青庄的夏天是怎么过的来着？习惯了空调房的阿走觉得有些不可思议。没有风扇，没有空调，只有双胞胎的哀嚎和掺着冰块的凉面。他想起那个时候的灰二哥，开着车带他们去白桦湖，在湖边的小路上和他并肩跑步。
和以前相比，现在他和灰二哥的关系发生了些许的变化。然而这种变化应该也是发生在一个下雨天。
那时候箱根驿传刚刚结束，灰二毫无悬念地直接住进了医院。竹青庄众人时不时来探望他，于是他的病床旁边就多了一摞王子送的热血漫画，阿雪制作的定时服药计划，城太城次懂的熊熊毛绒公仔，尼古前辈和KING买的营养品和果篮，还有——
活的藏原走。
身为跑者，他完全无法想象灰二哥要如何面对无法跑步的生活。这并不是说他认为灰二不该跑最后一棒，而是他有些怨恨上天的不公，偏要让眼前这个人在实现梦想的同时还要承担如此大的痛苦，而不肯给他们所有人一个完满的结局。阿走觉得自己笨手笨脚的，同时脑袋也不太好使，所以能为灰二哥做的除了跑步就只有陪陪他了。于是他的生活成了三点一线：课堂、训练场，还有灰二哥的病房。
灰二每天只是静静地躺在病床上，按照医生（和阿雪）的嘱咐按时吃药，一板一眼地做着康复运动。有时他也会在医生的允许下坐上轮椅，让阿走推着他在医院附近走走。阿走从来没有从他那双棕色眼睛中看出任何痛苦，它们还是那样温柔又宽容地圆润着。但是他知道事情远非这么简单。
灰二哥一定在痛苦，只不过对所有人都掩饰得过于好了。
人们常说，下雨天会让人变得心情低落。有人拿出体内激素水平变化、空气湿度和光强等科学依据来论证，有人相信这个单纯只是因为过往的经验总结。但对于阿走而言，日子只有能跑步的和不能跑步的两种区别，所以他向来也不信这些。直到那天——
冬天的雨夹杂着冰粒打在玻璃上，发出略有些刺耳的剐蹭声。灰二扶着额头，右手纂成拳，用尽全力抑制着眼眶里打转的泪滴。他出神地盯着又多了一道伤疤的膝盖，仿佛这个世界只剩下那一样东西。
“真的只能接受了。”他开口，却不像是在对阿走说话，“我以后再也跑不了了。”
也许这就是下雨天独有的糟糕心情。阿走料到会有这天，于是把早已准备好的安慰的话长篇累牍地输出，那模样不再像是藏原走，而像是幼儿园把三字经背得滚瓜烂熟的小朋友。他把灰二哥的招数反过来用在灰二哥身上，告诉他一定可以完全康复，告诉他即使没办法跑步也可以成为教练员，告诉他要对自己有信心，未来的生活一定会越来越好。
但是这当然对灰二没有效果。阿走觉得自己的心情也在沿着一条曲线慢慢向下跌落，同时也在逐渐失去对另外一些情绪的控制。平时的顾虑和担忧都像是被雨水冲刷殆尽，他用一句不太合时宜的话打破了病房内的寂静：
“那么，我喜欢灰二哥，这能让灰二哥开心一些吗？”
敲门声从玄关进入客厅，传到主卧，催促着阿走爬下床去。熟悉的脸孔出现在门后，灰二左手拿着湿淋淋的雨伞，右手提着微微冒着热气的塑料袋。他瞄准了阿走和门之间的缝隙走进屋里，一边换鞋一边招呼他来桌上吃饭。
“阿走，抱歉今天中午来不及做饭了，就随便吃点外面买的吧，”
阿走应声答着，走过去帮灰二把东西一样样拿出来摆在桌上，又去厨房取来餐具。随后就是吃饭、闲谈、洗碗，这一切都在平稳的雨声中有序地进行着，像他搬进来之后的每一天一样。两个人正裹在被窝里准备午睡，阿走突然抱住昏昏欲睡的灰二，把一张脸埋在对方的颈窝里。他的吐息呼在对方敏感的颈侧，头发也刺挠挠地抵着灰二的脸，让他觉得有些发痒。阿走嗅着他身上那份熟悉的清爽味道，心里却升腾起不安的感觉。
“灰二哥，你开心吗？”阿走问，声音闷闷的。也许是下雨天的缘故，他觉得自己又有些开始胡思乱想。
灰二觉得这句话实在有些阿走风格的可爱。窗户外的雨还在淅淅沥沥地下着，仿佛永远也不会停止。拉上窗帘的房间里只有少许昏暗的光，床垫因为灰二的动作发出咯吱咯吱的声音。他转过身去抱住阿走，把头轻轻靠在对方的胸膛上。雨声和心跳声融为一拍。灰二在爱人的怀里轻轻笑着，让阿走有些后悔说出刚才的话。
“当然开心。”灰二不假思索地说。夏天的雨像是把他的心也淋湿了，于是他的声音里也带上了一股水汽。他用脚趾勾住阿走的脚踝，换上狡黠的表情。
“但也许……”
“藏原选手努力努力，我还能更开心一些？”
