'macro-blogging' in the fediverse age

Hi there.

This is, admittedly, just a test post to try the Plume platform.

I’m a happy #fediverse citizen living at @[email protected], but I’m missing the opportunity to share longer pieces, maybe with a few more formatting options and media support.

I had my own blog back in the day, but I lost the will to maintain the back-end on my own for what were longer and longer stretches of time without anything published, so I closed that down.

In the end, for what would have been 3-4 posts a year, even joining Wordpress.com for hosting seemed out of proportion.

Also having a growing aversion to centrally controlled for-profit platforms, I never joined Facebook/Meta.

I’ve evaluated  https://writefreely.org/ before, but it was missing one key feature: You could not save drafts of your articles on the server. As I’m using this explicitly to write down longer takes, this isn’t usually done in one sitting. So working on an article might happen over time and using several different devices.

So the draft option is a bit hidden, but Plume seems to support this. Same goes for adding images, which seems to be a two-part process (add to gallery, then add to post). Also, paragraphes (or rather the empty lines in between) or somehow removed after saving. Most problems I see are more to how the editor is working and how many options it does present. So this is actually promising and I hope I will return soon for more tests.

Thanks for your time,
Chaos

PS: The image is, of course, only for testing purposes.

PPS: This is an edit after publish to see if this generates a new event on ActivityPub.
